The slogan of this year's Earthquake Safety Day is 'Government at all levels, preparedness of all citizens, Earthquake resilient Nepal is now the responsibility'.

In commemoration of the Great Earthquake that occurred on January 2nd, 1990 at 2:24 PM, under the coordination of the Ministry of Home Affairs, every year since 2055, January 2nd has been celebrated as Earthquake Safety Day.

Director General of Urban Development and Building Construction Department E. Ravindra Bohra said that there is a plan to celebrate the 28th Earthquake Safety Day by conducting various programs nationwide.

In a press conference, Director General Bohra said that instructions have been issued to the offices under the Urban Development and Building Construction Department to celebrate the 28th Earthquake Safety Day by organizing various public awareness programs on the occasion of this day.

Bohora said that the program of the main ceremony of this day will be held in the open forum with Kathmandu Metropolitan City as the host. According to him, it is said that on that day, various organizations will participate in the earthquake safety rally in Basantpur area.

It is said that starting from Vasantpur, the rally will pass through Akash Bhairab, Indrachok, Asan, Bhotahiti and arrive at the event venue Khulamanch. After the rally, it was told in the press conference that the program of the main ceremony committee will be organized under the chief hospitality of the Prime Minister.

It is said that a two-day earthquake safety exhibition program will be organized in which various organizations working in the field of disaster risk reduction will also participate. On the occasion of the Earthquake Safety Day, apart from the program of the main ceremony, it was informed in the press conference that various promotional programs including seminars, discussions, rallies, interactions, exhibitions, competition programs, blood donation, street plays, audio and video programs will be organized at the provincial and local levels with the participation of various agencies.

Director General Bohora said that the damage to people's property during disasters is mainly due to the collapse of weak houses or structures.

On this occasion, Surya Narayan Shrestha, Member Secretary of Earthquake Protection Day 2082 and Executive Director of Earthquake Technology National Society of Nepal, also informed about the schedule of major promotional programs and activities to be organized on the occasion of Earthquake Protection Day 2082 (year 2026).
