Monitoring of Adolescent Mental Health Unit in Mental Hospital by the Minister of Health

Kathmandu, February 5. Minister for Health and Population Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam has monitored the Adolescent Mental Health Unit (AMU) at the Lagankhel Mental Hospital.

During the monitoring, Minister Dr. Gautam took stock of the status and progress of mental health treatment, care and psychosocial support services being provided to children and adolescents. The Minister inspected the hospital's Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD) services, family counseling sessions and MIEU therapy unit.

On that occasion, Minister Dr. Gautam directly interacted with the adolescents undergoing treatment and their parents and learned about their experiences, needs and challenges.

Realizing the need for specialized mental health services for children and adolescents, the unit was established in December 2022. This unit was established by CWIN Nepal in collaboration with the Mental Hospital, with the support of Forroot.

Minister of Health Dr. Gautam stated that strengthening adolescent mental health services is a priority for the government, and said that the ministry is committed to expanding and improving the quality of such specialized services.
