Jewels from the world famous Louvre Museum

Kathmandu, October 4. The theft of the world-famous Louvre Museum in Paris, the capital of France, on Sunday morning has shaken the cultural world and the security system there. The precious jewels of the royal family have been stolen from the museum's gallery called "Gallerie d'Appelle".

According to French authorities, four masked robbers entered the museum using sophisticated equipment around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. They bypassed the security mechanism of the gallery within a few minutes and absconded with eight to nine historical jewels. Some of these jewels date back to the Napoleonic era.

Robbery completed in four minutes

According to French media, the theft was said to have been "completed in four minutes". The robbers entered the gallery directly from the outside of the building using a basket lift (elevating platform) attached to a truck. There they used a disk cutter to cut the chassis and split the display casing.

Louvre Museum closed

After the incident, the Louvre Museum has announced that the museum has been closed, showing a special reason. It is said that this museum, which has become a major destination for thousands of tourists, will remain closed till Tuesday. France's Ministry of Culture expressed "deep regret" over the incident and said it would fully reassess its security system.

"We failed” – Minister

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin acknowledged the security lapses at the time, calling the incident "an attack on the nation's cultural heritage". "We failed," he said, "and now the museum security needs to be improved."

Stolen Content

The jewels stolen include royal tiaras, bejeweled necklaces, brooches, earrings and crowns. Some of them are said to belong to Empress Eugenie's jewels. According to the police, some of the stolen jewelery was found in damaged condition but most of them are still missing.

A joint team of French police and international crime investigation agency Interpol has launched an investigation. CCTV footage, drone surveillance and forensic evidence are being collected around the incident site. According to the preliminary investigation, it is assumed that this work may be related to an organized criminal group.
